Fignon's passion for cycling emerged late, at the age of 15.

After excelling in junior races, he joined the prestigious Renault-Elf-Gitane team in 1981. With Bernard Hinault and Greg LeMond as teammates, Fignon faced fierce competition.

Fignon's strength and determination earned him the nickname "The Professor." He made his Grand Tour debut in th
