    Mamoru Shigemitsu was a Japanese diplomat and politician who served as the country's first representative to the United Nations.

    He was born in Oita Prefecture and obtained a law degree from the University of Tokyo before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    Early Career

    In 1919, Shigemitsu was a member of the Japanese delegation at the Paris Peace Conference and later worked at the embassy in Germany.
